Burundi - Register a Youth Group

Introduction

Youth groups are usually organization, associations or movements formed and run by young people, formulated with the purpose of helping these young people achieve their social, educational, economic, professional, scientific, cultural requirement and athletic. In Burundi, the government through the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture is in charge of youth-related policy, where the ministry has one of its roles as encouraging and promoting the creation and development of associations and movements for young people.

Instructions

1.Applicants must make sure that the group has the minimum number of initial members;

2.Group must have no aim of making profits;

3.Do not form a group with activities similar to those of a group in the same area of operation


Required Information

1.Proposed name of the youth group;

2.Details of the group’s registered office;

3.Details of proposed activities for the group;

4.Number and details of initial members of group;

5.Number and details of directors on initial board of directors;

6.Organization’s byelaws;

7.Aims and objectives of group;

8.Details of property that belongs to group (if any);


Procedure

1.To register a youth group in Burundi, an applicant must start by coordinating some young people with a common goal to come together and form a group;

2.The group should thereafter decide who what to do and where to do it from;

3.Thereafter formulate a board for the group. The board formulated must include a secretary and chairman in addition to other members as decided by group;

4.Thereafter the applicant should register group with the local authorities in the area where the group wished to carry out its operations;

5.After registration, the group then goes to register at the national level. This is done at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. Therefore

  • The applicant should go to the ministry to find out what is required in order to successfully register a youth group;
  • Prepare application for registration and all other required documents and submit then;
  • When documents are submitted, they are assessed to determine eligibility of group;
  • If not eligible, the group is not registered and reasons are given and if group is found eligible, it is registered and a certificate of registration is issued

  3. Passport photographs of directors of group
  4. A legal status in home country (foreign youth groups)
  5. A certificate of incorporation in home country (foreign youth groups)


Fees
