Bahamas - Registering a Boat/Ski for Private Use

Introduction

It is a requirement of The Government of The Bahamas that all boats/skis to be used privately, must be registered. The registration process at the Port Department is one designed to assist the private boat owners in getting their licenses in an efficient manner.

Eligibility

Must be a Bahamian boat/ski owner.
Note: Non- residents are required to secure a pass from immigration and customs regarding access the waters.

Instructions

Please provide instructions on obtaining the certificate/documents.
e.g. The state office holds birth records since january 1908.

Required Information

  • Name of Boat
  • Name and Address of Owner
  • Date of Birth
  • Nationality
  • Date of Application
  • Length of Boat
  • Type of Hull
  • Make and Year Built
  • Type, Make and H.P. of Engine
  • Serial Number of Engine
  • List number of life saving equipment and fire extinguishers on board

Procedure

  1. To registration for a Private License the applicant must fill out and submit an application Form to the Port Department Office on New Providence or any of the other Port Department offices listed below.
  2. The applicant must pay the registration fee at the time that the application is submitted and provide all supporting documents listed below.
  3. The Port Department evaluates the vessel to ensure that it has adequate crew and determine a limit the maximum amount of passengers that can be safely transported on boat.
  4. Once all registration requirements are satisfied the Private License is issued.

  • Proof of ownership of the boat
  • Proof of payment of Customs Duty (if boat was not purchased in the Bahamas)
  • A valid form of national photo identification

Fees

  • Boats under 15 feet in length

$30.00

  • Boats 15 feet or over and under 25 feet in length

$50.00

  • Boats 25 feet or over and under 50 in length

$100.00

  • Boats 50 feet or over and under 100 feet in length

$200.00

  • Boats 100 feet or over in length

$400.00

  • Boats 100 feet or over in length

$10.00

  • Duplicate certificate

$10.00

Validity
