Introduction

Marriage is the process by which two people who love each other make their relationship public, official, and permanent.

In Anguilla, parties or couples who intend to be married have two options which are:

  • By the Magistrate at the Court House or
  • By a Minister of religion who is a registered Marriage Officer for Anguilla.

Eligibility

  • To get married in Anguilla you must be resident on the island for a minimum of 48 hours, in order to make an application for a marriage license at the Court Registry.
  • Both parties must be 18 years of age and above.
  • If parties are under the age of 18, consent must be presented.

Instructions

  • Both persons should come into the Court Registry two days (the latest) prior to the day of marriage to make application for a marriage license.
  • If parties are under the age of 18, consent must be presented.
  • Two witnesses are required.
  • If you plan to marry in Anguilla, contact the Magistrate at 264-497-2377 or 264-497-3477.

Procedure

To apply for your marriage license, both parties must personally attend the Court Registry, Judicial Department, Court House Building, P.O. Box 60, The Valley, Anguilla, at least two days prior to the day of your wedding and provide the required documentation and applicable fee.

Required Documents

  • proof of citizenship such as a valid passport or birth certificate and driver's license with photo
  • proof of divorce or death certificate is required for persons who are re-marrying

Fees

  • EC$100.00 or its equivalent of US$37.20 worth of Anguilla stamps, which can be obtained from the General Post Office in Anguilla.
  • Payment of EC$650.00 or its equivalent of US$241.80 which is the cost of the Marriage license.

Validity

e.g. Birth Certificate Valid Forever
