Algeria - Apply for Learner Driver’s License

Introduction

This is a document issued to allow the applicant start learning how to drive.

Eligibility

  • 17 yrs of age and above.
  • A person who is learning to drive, but has not yet satisfied the requirements to obtain a driver's license.

Instructions

  • When you pass the written test in the Algeria, you get a learner's permit with which you're required to practice driving.
  • You will be required to have an experienced driver present when your start your driving practice.

  • I D /Passport No.
  • Name of the applicant
  • Nationality
  • Address
  • Gender
  • Medical certificate

Procedure

  1. The applicant takes a learner's licensing test, which is a theory multiple choice test on road rules.
  2. Once they have passed this, they may drive with an adult who has had their full license for more than 5 yrs.
  3. They must display “L” plates at all times when driving.

Required Documents

  • 2 recent passport-sized photos with bare head.
  • Photocopy of your Italian tax identification number.
  • Medical certificate in original and photocopy.
  • For foreign applicants: - valid permit of stay or residence permit in original and photocopy.

Original permit of stay will also have to be produced when the driving license is collected.

  • In some cases the licensing office may request a Declaration by the Embassy or Consulate of the country of origin stating that the original driving license is authentic (for further information ask at the Motorization).
  • Authenticated translation of the driving license in case of driving licenses that do not comply with the model set out by international agreements.

Information which might help

The vehicle being driven by the learner must also be fitted with L-plates on both the back and front of the vehicle.
This tells other road users that the vehicle is being operated by a driver without their full license and that they may make mistakes easily and that the driver may not be fully competent yet.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

When you apply for a learner's permit, you will also complete the application process for your driver's license and pay the fees for both the permit and license.

The driver accompanying you may be 18 years of age if he or she is your legal guardian, brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, step-brother or step-sister. This person must hold a valid driver's license, be legally permitted to drive, and be alert and able to assist you.
